Red Aura Meanings & Self Care
Welcome! Here you will find all that you need to know about the red aura. Maybe you identify as a red, or love someone who is red. Enjoy learning about the ins and outs of the red aura bearer!
These color meanings are based on my experience as an intuitive aura reader and my perception in this lifetime. My meanings might not always line up with your own interpretation, and that’s the fun of it! Have an open mind and open heart when reading the provided meanings.
Keep in mind that the interpretations here are more general. It’s important to consider the shades and hues of the color, other colors present, and how they all might work together or clash with one another. This is why an interpretation by a professional aura reader will tell you much more, with amazing accuracy, than you can find below. My aura readings offer a personalized meaning of your colors based on what is happening in your life and what you need to hear at the time of your aura painting. You can book an e-mail aura reading with me here, or find me at a local event around Maine and New Hampshire.

Consider Color Location
In my aura paintings, the location of the aura color gives detailed insight. Even shapes within a color can offer information.
Colors at the very bottom are your core essence and Soul traits shining through, assisting or guiding you. Tendencies and personality traits show up here. The foundational energies are unwavering and least likely to shift or change, but it can be done with patience and care.
Colors banded through the center are long term themes coming and going. They won’t always correlate to personality, but instead to lessons, challenges, missions, personal growth, or paths you’re moving on.
Colors at the very top are present energies, either being used by you (left side) or expressed by you (right side). This will give insight into tendencies and behaviors you might not have realized are there. Colors here show what you’re thinking or feeling right now. Personality traits are here, but these are more able to shift, change, or adapt than the foundational colors.

The Red Aura Family
The red aura family is full of life. Included here are hues from maroon to bright hot red-magenta.
I correlate the aura colors to active or dominant energy centers. Think of your chakras as creating the map of your aura. Their energy projects outward into your energetic field. The Root Chakra is red. You can learn about the root chakra here!

They indulge in lustful encounters and adrenaline-surging activities. They may have recently experienced a new lease on life, or simply have a deep appreciation for life. An Imbalanced Red Aura
An imbalance is indicated by discoloring of the red dominant energy that makes it look darkened, muddy, or black. This can also occur in a secondary color, which would indicate a more temporary imbalance.
When imbalanced, the red aura feels out of sync. This can occur due to past trauma, family issues, being uprooted from their living situation, insecurities with food, money, or shelter, or by having their life invalidated by others. Physical ailments can contribute.
Imbalanced red auras can become stubborn. They will stand their ground on an opinion, even when it’s been disproved. They can become intolerant or closed off from the world. The red aura might seek comfort through overindulgence, whether with food, alcohol, gambling, over-working, shopping, or substances. They may feel or be totally disconnected from their ancestry. They may also feel disconnected from their physical body and/or environment.
Shadows of Red
The shadow is an unconscious element, something such as an emotional trigger. Often an imbalance is rooted in our shadow, which unless acknowledged and integrated, can return. We may try to avoid or deny our shadow, but it is still there. The shadow often has unconscious influence over our emotions and decisions. It can be a cause for chronic energy imbalance. It’s empowering to shine a light on this piece of you, when you’re ready, in order to move forward or find healing. Note that shadows may not always appear in an aura painting.
Red auras can have a shadow that involves their upbringing, their family, or their home life. They may have moved around a lot, or had tension or abuse in the home. Something causes feelings of lack or instability. There may be wounds involving the mother that need tending to. They may not have had proper structure in home and/or school. Another possible shadow involves authority. They may have experienced abusive authority in childhood. Red auras must be mindful not to fall into victimhood. They are resilient and resourceful, but shadow aspects or imbalance can cause them to lose sight of this.
The red aura may carry ancestral trauma through DNA which is contained within the shadow. Sometimes, we may not realize there are unconscious influences because there may not be something in our lifetime that would be cause of imbalance. This can appear as fearing the worst or doubting the self. The red aura might doubt their ability to survive. They might even feel undeserving of the life they want. They may struggle to feel at home or to lay down their roots.
A shadow element that has not been integrated may act out through emotional outbursts, frustration, or rage. They may be prone to hoarding or workaholism. At times, they may become aggressive or domineering, looking for a way to get back a sense of control and security in the moment. They may be too stubborn, become intolerant or rebellious.
Red Aura Healing
If the aura has become cloudy, muddy, contains black or olive green splotches or turbulent energy, etc. there are plenty of steps you can take to find balance or healing. Depending on your situation, some things may work better than others.

Ground into the Earth with your bare feet. This is also called Earthing. Doing so is stabilizing. Notice the sensations in your feet to get the most out of this activity.
Practice mindful presence. Take moments throughout your day to tune in. Check in with your physical self. Notice your surroundings. Take in everything with each sense. You may feel called to meditate, observing the environment you're in.
Visualize roots growing from your feet and tail bone. Envision these roots extending below you, down to the Earth. Imagine them growing and expanding, moving deeper down, closer and closer to the glowing core of the planet. Open yourself the the Earth's energies. She will share with you unconditional love, support, and truth.
Always practice self compassion. (This may mean working with the heart chakra).
Physical movement helps activate, move, and clear energy. Move your feet and legs. Go for a walk or bike ride. Any sort of exercise will do, as long as the bottom half of your body is engaged.
Drumming helps activate, open, and balance the red aura. Play a steady beat or something that makes you want to move your body. I like this one for grounding and relaxing.
